Safety Town

Every year the Kiwanis Club works with the Alameda Fire Department to teach over 500 kindergartners about safety issues - both at home and on the street.  Safety Town is a miniature city reconstructed every year at Alameda Point to give our kids hands-on education about staying safe.

In alternating years the Alameda Club honors the personnel of either the Fire or Police Department with a special luncheon to recognize their service to our community.

Chili Cook-Off and Barbecue Dinner  - Fundraiser

The 2008 Chili Cook-off will feature another spirited Chili contest, in addition to a delicious dinner, many happy raffle/auction bidders, and lots of delighted dancers.  Volunteer opportunities abound with this event.  Sponsorships and auction items are especially welcome.

Early April

Kiwanis 1 Day

Kiwanis 1 Day brings together the entire Kiwanis family of organizations in the California-Nevada-Hawaii District to work in service of the community every March. The Kiwanis Club of Alameda proudly participates in this spectacular service event, doing everything from reading to children to building bookshelves to planting trees and contributing to the beautification of local parks.

Spring

Kiwanis/Rotary Golf  Tournament

Kiwanians do know how to golf - we won in 2007!  This annual event is a great rivalry between the two service organizations and we enjoy lots of cordial ribbing.

Mid May

Hope of America Awards

Each May, the Kiwanis Club of Alameda honors a select group of Alameda eighth-grade students for their leadership, citizenship, and scholastic abilities. These children represent the future Hope of America, hence the name of the awards and our dedication to honoring them.
